Performance management can be a divisive topic. When used correctly, it can  be a very useful tool to align an employer’s organisational objectives with the employees’ agreed skills, competencies, and targets for the delivery of results. However, it does come under a lot of criticism, particularly by employees who view it as an attempt by the employer to manage them out when they are no longer required – whether or not this might be the case.
